The earthquake occurred at 5:12 am (local time) on 18 April 1906. The epicenter was 3 km West of San Francisco, the magnitude was 7.9 on the Richter scale.
The tremors were felt from Oregon to Los Angeles, and inside of the continent to the center of Nevada. The earthquake and subsequent fires killed up to 3,000 people, 225 000-300 000 were left homeless, 80 % of the buildings in San Francisco were destroyed.
The quake was followed by a ground displacements along the fault the San Andreas fault at a distance of up to 6.0—8.5 m. the Offset was observed in the Northern third of the plot length is 477 km.
