Almost 65 thousand hectares of forest burned in the Far East of Russia

Almost 180 forest fires burned in the past day in five regions of the Far East, the fire destroyed nearly 65,000 hectares of forest, the forestry department for the Far Eastern Federal District reports on Thursday.

For comparison, the area of ‚Äč‚ÄčKhabarovsk – half the size, about 38 thousand hectares.

“Over the past day, 49 new forest fires have arisen in the Far Eastern Federal District, taking into account the previously emerged foci – 179. 120 of them in Yakutia, 30 in the Khabarovsk Territory, 27 in the Amur Region, one each in the Kamchatka Territory and in the Magadan Region,” – The report said.

“The area covered by fire for a day amounted to 64.6 thousand hectares, of which in Yakutia 57 thousand hectares,” – said the department.

At the extinguishing of fires worked 1.36 thousand people, 155 units of equipment and nine aircraft.

“By the morning of Tuesday, 12 fires have been eliminated, and another 167 are still burning, namely 110 in Yakutia, including one fire on the lands of specially protected natural areas, 28 in the Khabarovsk Territory, 27 in the Amur Region, one each in the Kamchatka Territory and in the Magadan Region Region, “the department said.
