An earthquake measuring 7.1 occurred near the coast of Chile

An earthquake of magnitude 7.1 occurred near the coast of the Valparaiso region in Chile. The outbreak occurred at a depth of 25 km and was located in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Chile, 12 km north-west of the city of Viña del Mar. Epicenter was 39 km from the city of Valparaiso.

Later, the magnitude of the tremors was reduced to 6.9 on the Richter scale. Subterranean tremors were felt in several parts of Chile, including in Santiago.
