Residents of Chile recorded an extremely rare phenomenon – in the local Atacama Desert, which is considered the driest place on Earth, flowers have grown. The reason for this was the abnormal rainfall that hit the region in winter.
Typically, the Atacama desert is not covered by plants more often. Than once in seven years, but because of unexpected torrential the arid terrain turned into a blooming garden for five years ahead of schedule. At the moment, more than 200 different species of flora can be observed in the desert.
