Forest fires in the Canary Islands

A large forest fire erupted in Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands. More than 300 firefighters are fighting with the fire element.

The combustion has already destroyed 2 thousand hectares of forest. A rapid spread of fire contributes to strong wind and arid conditions. The authorities called for the evacuation of more than 800 people in the areas of Cruz, Lagunetas, Cueva Grande and Kaletari. Many roads were closed.

An emergency situation of the second level was declared.
