Strong hail and torrential rain with heavy wind that struck on Sunday at the region of Adigeni district in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region (South Georgia), caused considerable damage to several villages, destroying the harvest.
“Over the banks of the river flooded the village Ochi Varani and UC Adigeni district, and the hail destroyed all of the remaining harvest. The floods have washed away livestock and poultry, damaged houses,” – told reporters the Governor of Samtskhe-Javakheti Akaki Machutadze.
According to him, now the fire brigade and rescue workers trying to pump out water from houses, but the rain still continues.
The night before a heavy downpour and hailstones the size of walnuts destroyed almost the entire crop in several villages of the Dusheti district (Shida Kartli region, Eastern Georgia).
According to media reports, in the villages of Ebnisee, Mchadijvari, Zemo Shuakhevi and Ananuri-Dusheti district hail damaged roofs of houses, broke the fruit trees and crops, leaving local residents without a crop.
“All the houses that were damaged will be restored and no family will be left without attention. Together with experts, we set the size of damage and all affected people will be assisted,” said the head of the district municipality Vazha Chokheli.
Local authorities are now counting damage to the same element days earlier and the other villages of the Shida Kartli region, and Kakheti region.
