August 23 in the United States planned to conduct large-scale exercises “EarthEX2017” associated with the actions of special services and various departments to develop interoperability in “large-scale power outage”.
Under the scenario of the exercises, the power grid will have a “subcontinent scale, a long break in the power supply with cascading failures of all other infrastructures.”
The exercise “EarthEX2017” will be conducted to develop actions for the case of a mega earthquake, cyber-terrorism or large electromagnetic impulse attacks.
Interestingly, shortly before the exercises on August 21, territories of 14 US states will plunge into total darkness during a total solar eclipse.
