Millions of jellyfish invaded the coast of Israel

A power station in southern Israel cannot cope with a wave of millions of jellyfish that are clogging cooling tanks that disrupt its operation.

Jellyfish accumulate on the filters of Ashkelon station, which are designed to prevent them from entering the operating systems and diverting them to special tanks.

Coastal IEC stations use seawater to cool their systems. Jellyfish also caused problems for desalination plants in Israel.

A swarm of tens of millions of jellyfish reached Ashkelon and Ashdod this week and is expected to move to the beaches of Central and Northern Israel.
