Near Temryuk activated the mud volcano Hephaestus

The Hephaestus volcano is located in the Krasnodar Territory of Russia. It is a flat hill with a diameter of more than 500 meters.

There are about 40 mud volcanoes on the Taman land. Among them there are both active and sleeping, but they are attractive for tourists and local residents mainly as a miracle source of mud treatment.

The most popular on Taman volcano “Hephaestus” is located near Temryuk. Its other name is Rotten Mountain (because of loose, fragile soil). You can get here by car or book a bus tour.

The volcano “Hephaestus” occupies quite a vast territory: it is not only the volcano itself, but also about a hundred hills and craters of various sizes around. And also a small lake, where you can swim just after taking mud baths. In the second half of the XIX century there was an army balneological clinic, which was destroyed in 1902 due to the strongest volcanic eruption (the height of the mud flow during the eruption can reach 30 meters in height).

Temryuk is a city in the south of Russia. The administrative center of Temryuk district of the Krasnodar Territory, as well as Temryuk urban settlement. There is a seaport, a railway station. The climatic resort.
