The activity of the Sabanca volcano in the south of Peru is increasing

The Sabankaya volcano in the south of Peru has recently been very active. It takes an average of 44 explosions per day. The muzzle constantly throws out ash, because of what the populated areas suffer – nearby and not very much.

Among such – Arequipa, the second largest city of Peru with a population of one million people. It is located 100 kilometers from the volcano. Local residents are waiting for help from the authorities.

“We need masks and glasses, and even a skin cream.”

The Peruvian Ministry of Defense has already allocated 5,000 facial masks and nearly 6,000 points to ensure that vulnerable members of local communities – children and the elderly – can protect themselves from ashes.

According to the Geophysical Institute of Peru, a cloud of ash above the crater of the volcano now rises to 3,200 meters. Blows it, mainly to the south and south-east, including – to the valley of Kolka. The height of the Sabancay itself is almost 6 thousand meters. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Peru. It enters the chain of three stratovolcanoes. The longest period of his activity was in the 90s of the last century and lasted more than 8 years.
