In the Swiss village of Bondo, the element struck a third blow in two weeks. Late in the evening on Thursday, after a severe thunderstorm, a large mud stream and a rockfall came down to the village. In Bondo and three neighboring villages roads were damaged and several buildings were destroyed. Victims were avoided this time.
August 23 as a result of a landslide in the area, eight climbers, citizens of three countries, disappeared without a trace. Two days later, the exploration work had to be stopped for a long time because of the second landslide. Later the operation was stopped altogether: the lost alpinists were deemed dead, and the search for their bodies under thousands of tons of stones and mud is impossible.
Residents of the region and tourists are warned that in the near future, new landslides and rock falls are possible.
