Volcano Santa Maria in Guatemala spewed a column of ash

Volcano Santa Maria in Guatemala on Sunday, August 14, threw a column of ash to a height of about 6 km above the sea level.As shown by satellite imagery, the ash plume carried away by the wind to the South-West.

Ashes had covered the settlements of San Felipe, Mazatenango and Retalhuleu, which is located 60 km from the troubled mountains.

Local residents are urged to take all necessary precautions, in particular, to avoid staying near the volcano.
