The structure of the material is quite simple. There are only two components – graphene and titanium dioxide. Graphene due to its three-dimensional structure plays the role of a kind of grid that filters and retains dirt particles. A titanium dioxide – a photocatalyst, which greatly accelerates the decomposition of harmful substances.
The method is easy to scale, and can be used for both domestic water treatment and industrial use. Filters from the new material can be used to purify industrial waste water. The new material has already been tested in Shanghai, as well as in the provinces of Jiangsu and Anhui.
Field tests showed significant improvement in water quality and the reduction of harmful impurities within two weeks after the start of the use of new filters. The material has already begun to be produced on an industrial scale.
