The earthquake of a magnitude of 5.9 occurred near the Fiji Islands in the South Pacific ocean, reports the European Mediterranean seismological centre (EMSC).
The tremors were recorded at 23.45 UTC (2.45 GMT). The epicenter of the earthquake was located in 481 kilometres East of Suva. The focus lies at a depth of 33 kilometers.
