NASA came up with a new kind of weather observations

According to NASA, a new type of miniature artificial earth satellites (AES) equipped with sensitive radar equipment will provide detailed information about the processes inside intense atmospheric vortices, including those developing over the oceans, where there are no powerful radar stations.

At present, such information can be obtained only with the help of meteorological radars, but their number, lack of mobility, and distance from objects of study do not allow observations of interest to scientists. The use of the satellite allows you to bring the measuring tool to the object of measurement, to obtain information quickly, from the moment of the origin of the vortex to its destruction.

The system of miniature satellites is called “RainCube”. Scientists stressed that at the moment the device is not designed to fulfill the mission of tracking storms, this is just the first demonstration that mini-satellites with mini-radar can provide the required information.
