The most amazing fossils

Fossils bring to mankind many benefits, allowing us to imagine the daily life of our distant Paradice. A fossilization, or petrification, is a complex process, during which the tissue of the dead organism are replaced by mineral substances. Most often we find the fossilized bones, so the skeleton of a dinosaur in a Museum is unlikely to surprise someone. However, the case is much more striking finds, they are something we bring to your attention.

About 74 million years ago VelociRaptor and protoceratops locked in a deadly duel on the territory of modern Mongolia. The VelociRaptor grabbed the back claws into the neck of protoceratops, who in response tried to tear the enemy a paw. They covered the settled sand dune, and they’re petrified in a pose of battle, surprising paleontologists unearthed them.

In South Australia, scientists discovered the eye age 500 million years. Well-preserved composite (like flies) the eye consists of approximately three thousand lenses, which is significantly more than many creatures of that time. Paleontologists can’t say for sure who this eye belongs to, but he is proof that some ancient animals had very keen eyesight.

Opening in 1994 sitting on a clutch of eggs fossilized oviraptor forever changed our understanding of dinosaurs. Before only suspected that some dinosaurs hatched eggs (like modern chickens). Well-preserved remains from Mongolia proved the validity of the assumptions.

The phrase “till death do us part” was true for a pair of ancient tortoises. In the ancient volcanic lake in Western Germany found two turtles fossilized in the process of mating. Plunging into the depths of bliss, they fell in the toxic lower layers of the water, and died in each other’s arms and killed their toxic lake preserved the body for posterity.

Some people unpleasant species of frogs. But 70 million years ago, we’d just scared them because they could eat a dinosaur. The largest ever found frogs, Beelzebufo ampinga or devil frog was up to 41 cm in length and weighing up to 4.5 kg.

Ancient volcanoes is contributed to the preservation of the remains in Pompeii. When 10 million years ago a volcano erupted in Idaho, hot ashes spread over thousands of kilometers. Since then, excavations in Nebraska were found more than 200 skeletons, including a baby Rhino, sucking the last SIP of milk from the dead mother.

One of the most amazing discoveries – the remains of the snake Sanajeh indicus, ready for lunch just hatched a sauropod. As it could not wide enough to open its mouth to swallow the egg whole, nor to break the shell thickness of 2 mm, the snake was waiting near the nest until the young hatch. The landslide covered the nest with a snake and her newborn half-meter production, keeping the scene millions of years.

About 150 million years ago pterosaur flew to eat. Flying over the water surface, he noticed the fish and began to decline. “Not so fast,” said Aspidorhynchus, a large fish with a length of 60 cm, jumping out of the water and grabbed the pterosaur the wing. But her teeth were not strong enough and got stuck in the muscular wing. As a result, both plunged into the water with a low oxygen concentration, where petrified.

Just like modern animals, ancient mammoths fought for the sake of attracting attention of females. Scientists on a dig in Nebraska, first suggested that found a mammoth mutant with four tusks, but then I realized that these are two mammoth tusks embraced each other. Unable to escape, they soon died together.

During excavations in Colombia, paleontologists have discovered a gigantic turtle the size of a small helicopter. 60 million years ago, turtle carbonates, reaching a length of 1.7 meters, was hosted in South America, and even hunted ferocious crocodiles.

Remarkably well-preserved tracks found in Glen rose, Texas, demonstrate an impressive step dinosaur. Long-necked sauropods ran along the river, probably escaping from a pursuer: the insatiable of a theropod wanted to bite off a piece of fresh meat. Before paleontologists arrived at the scene, surrounding residents have dug up part of the trail for sale.

If the ants seem annoying, you’re lucky that you lived 50 million years ago. While larger ants the size of hummingbirds patrolling the ground and even up in the air on its own wings.

Although in amber-preserved insects, a mosquito from South-Western Montana was an amazing discovery. He drowned right after a hearty lunch with a full belly of blood, proving that hematophagy, or feeding on blood, there are already 46 million years. Unfortunately, this blood is unlikely to clone dinosaurs.

Modern great white shark just a baby compared to the Megalodon. Prehistoric shark, only one jaw of which reached a length of 3.35 metres, the Megalodon was the apotheosis of a predator in the oceans of the ancient world, easily able to bite with their jaws and whale and sea turtle.
