NASA is developing the technology of suspended animation

The project on creation of systems for immersion of the astronauts in a deep sleep state supported by NASA under the Innovative Advanced Concepts program.

He became one of the eight innovative projects that received support from the space Agency. Each participant will receive a grant for further technology development in the amount of 500 thousand dollars for two years.

The project envisages the creation of cryogenic chambers in which people will be in a state of suspended animation during long flights. In such cells the body temperature of astronauts will have to be about 10 degrees, which will reduce the speed of metabolism.

It is assumed that immersing people in artificial sleep can be applied already during the nine-month journey to Mars. Delivery of essential life-sustaining substances in the body will be carried out intravenously. Development capsules currently by specialists Spaceworks.
