In the solar atmosphere, a wedge-shaped hole appeared, from which a stream of solar wind erupts into space. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Laboratory took this picture November 12.
The picture clearly shows a coronal hole – an area in which the lines of the magnetic field of the Sun open, and allow the solar wind to escape from the atmosphere. It is expected that this stream will reach Earth on November 14-15.
It is interesting that this coronal hole is connected with the coronal hole, due to which on November 7 the northern lights were observed in the northern regions of our country, including St. Petersburg.
Can this beautiful phenomenon be repeated? Yes, it is possible: NOAA experts estimate the probability of occurrence of polar geomagnetic storms in 40%.
