During the search for methane on the seabed they found a stone spearhead. The hunting gear is made of silicon. The tip was in bottom sediments at a depth of 3 meters, 35 cm below the seabed surface. Three meters – the sediment accumulated 5 thousand years.
The task of the expedition was to check the bottom sediments for the presence of natural gas in the Deryugin Basin. The northeastern slope of Sakhalin has long attracted oceanographers. The gas that rises through the faults indicates seismic activity or the presence of oil. And several giant deposits have already been found in the shelf area.
“We are working a little deeper – this is the slope of Sakhalin, but the processes there are still the same as on the shelf. We prove that gas hydrates are associated with oil and gas deposits and no one has conducted such studies except us in the world,” says Yuri Telegin, deputy chief of the expedition POI FEB RAS.
Underwater equipment is lowered to a depth of more than a thousand meters, then submerged into the ground and captured bottom sediments. Who would have thought that this time in the tube for the selection of soil, together with gas hydrates will be a message from the past?
With such an instrument in the Stone Age, they hunted fur and sea animals.
“Many people say that the ancient people hunted an ice floe, if it was lost on the ice, it flew out of the stick, then the ice could bring it to the area.” The ice then thawed and it fell, another version – maybe his shark had eaten? ” – assume the students of the expedition.
