Peru found the earliest arrowheads

Archaeologists have discovered in Peru more than 150 ancient spearheads and arrows. Their age ranges from 9 thousand to 12 thousand years. The find was made in the Ica desert south of Lima.

The objects found are the first artifacts to confirm the population of the region in this early period.

The tips were made from local materials, such as flint, and from those brought here for several hundred kilometers. According to archaeologists, the finds speak either of the high mobility of groups inhabiting this territory, or of the extensive cultural ties of people.

Some of the tips reached a length of 12 cm, others were quite small – up to 2 cm. The tips after further study will be exhibited in the Regional Museum of Ica.
