144,000 lightning strikes in 24 hours in southeastern Europe. Thunderstorms accompanied by hail – 144,000 lightning strikes in southeastern Europe in the last 24 hours.

This is shown by a reference from the “Blitzortung” platform, which records thunderstorm activity in real time. About 1/4 of all of them occurred in the territory of Bulgaria.

One person died and another was injured in Sofia after being struck by lightning during yesterday’s thunderstorm in the Bulgarian capital.

Thunderstorms follow the movement of a cold atmospheric front that passes over the Balkans. Hail fell in areas of greatest activity in the afternoon of August 25.

Thunderstorm weather is forecast to move into the southern and eastern regions of the country on August 27.
