A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.5 occurred in Mexico

In the south-west of Mexico there was a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.5 Epicenter lay at a depth of 24km. A million houses and businesses were left without light after the tremors.

Different seismic stations give slightly different data on the magnitude – 7.5 and according to other data – 7.2. Underground shocks were felt at a distance of more than 350 km from the epicenter, which was near the city of San Augustine.

National Seismological Service of Mexico reports that after a powerful earthquake 122 aftershocks were recorded.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said that the National Committee for Emergency Situations was convened in the country.

“In connection with the earthquake, whose magnitude is more than 7 points, according to the protocol, the National Committee for Emergency Situations in the National Center for the Prevention of Natural Disasters is convened”
