A whale washed ashore in Delaware

Authorities say a 50-foot fin whale that washed ashore along the Delaware coast is dead. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control said scientists are measuring and sampling the whale, which will then be buried in a pit on the beach.

The whale first appeared in Lewes on Thursday, ejecting on a sandbank. It was able to swim back out to sea, but later washed ashore on the ocean side of The Point in Cape Henlopen State Park, where Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean.
