Catastrophic flood in China

815 thousand people (56% of the population) in Ningxiang County, Hunan Province in the southeast of China suffered from floods, 44 people were killed and missing.

It is noted that the natural disaster of this year has become the strongest in the county for 60 years of observation. From June 22 to July 1, 31.8% of the annual rainfall rate, or 461.1 millimeters, fell here. The heaviest rains took place from June 30 to July 1.

Because of the disaster, 14,000 houses were destroyed, dams and roads on 70 streets were damaged, more than 22,000 hectares of agricultural land were flooded, 13 settlements were left without electricity, and seven without communication.

According to preliminary estimates, direct and indirect economic damage is 9 billion yuan (1.3 billion dollars).
