Colombia is overwhelmed by flash floods

Heavy rain caused flash flooding in Villavicencio, Meta Colombia.

Heavy rain caused severe flooding in Villavicencio. Local authorities said 200 families were affected. Ambulance teams went to the scene of accidents in 31 points of the city. Local media reported that at least 50 people were evacuated.

The Columbia Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Research (IDEAM) reported that the Guayuriba River in Villavicencio reached 6.2 meters on April 12, higher than the dangerous 6 meters.

Colombia’s Civil Defense reported flooding elsewhere in Meta during the same period, with damage to houses in Guamal and Granada.

Earlier this month, the Civil Defense Service reported flooding in the municipality of Eldorado that occurred from 6 to 7 April. About 100 houses were damaged, 400 people were injured.
