Emergency mode introduced in Virginia due to hurricane, five dead in Bahamas

The Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Hubert Minnis, reported the death of five people due to Hurricane Dorian on the Abaco Islands.

“We are in the midst of a historical tragedy in parts of our northern Bahamas.”

According to Minnis, many buildings are “completely or partially destroyed.”

In connection with the approaching Dorian, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam declared an emergency and urged state residents to be vigilant.

Dorian is currently moving northeast of the island of Grand Bahama. Gusts of wind inside a hurricane reach 265 kilometers per hour.

In anticipation of a hurricane, the international airports of Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach have already shut down. More than 200 flights canceled at Orlando International Airport, Interfax reports.

Earlier in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, a massive evacuation of coastal communities was announced.
