Floods rage in six districts of Bangladesh

While thousands of people are still stranded by floods, overflowing rivers have flooded six districts of the country. Many houses and vast areas of arable land have already been swallowed up by the rivers.

Flood-affected people are enduring hard days with shortages of food and drinking water, although relevant government officials say arrangements have been made to distribute relief supplies.

A bulletin from the Center for Flood Forecasting and Prevention said water levels in 14 rivers across the country exceeded dangerous levels yesterday.

“The flood situation in low-lying areas of Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Pabna, Manikganj, Rajbari, Shariatpur and Faridpur may worsen in the next 24 hours,” the bulletin said.
