Forest fires in southern Portugal can not be controlled

In southern Portugal, forest fires are being combated, involving hundreds of firefighters, servicemen and aviation. The most serious situation has developed in the Algarve region.

According to the head of government Antoniu Koshta, a few more days may be spent fighting the fiery elements. Extinguishing the fire is hindered by weather conditions: high temperature, wind speed and relative humidity.

One of the decisive roles is also played by the composition of the forests themselves. The local residents compare the abundance of eucalyptus with life near a barrel of gasoline. Fortunately, everything went without sacrifice.

In the area of Monchique, their homes were forced to leave about 200 people. Several dozens of residents were poisoned by combustion products or burned.
