Fukutoku-Okanoba volcano erupts in Japan

Observations of the Fukutoku-Okanoba volcano in Japan confirm a 16-kilometer plume from the last eruption Renewed explosive activity continues.

The volcano first produced an underwater explosion on August 13. The Japanese Coast Guard conducted aerial surveillance that confirmed the height of the eruption plume.

An impressive white plume of steam and gas rose to a height of about 16 kilometers (53,000 feet) and spread as a dome-shaped cloud.
