Government of Guyana Declares Flood Emergency

The Government of Guyana has declared a state of emergency in the country due to flooding that has affected all regions since mid-May 2021.

Meanwhile, multi-week flooding continues in neighboring Suriname, affecting more than 10,000 people.

All regions of the country have been affected, especially Regions 2, 5, 6, 7 and 10. According to the President of the country, a total of 28,228 households were affected by the current flooding: water entered homes, livestock and pets were in distress, and farmland was flooded, causing damage to crops.
