Hawaii Kilauea volcano explosion

The Hawaiian volcano Kilauea continues the current cycle of inflation which started 2 days ago (and maybe currently turning into deflation), the lava lake in the summit crater of Halemaumau was again raised and clearly observed from the local Observatory. This morning its surface was only 12 m below the rim.

The explosion at the lava lake was observed yesterday at 21:15 local time, it was probably caused by a large rockfall from the unstable walls of the crater. A fountain of hot material rose from the end to the North-East from the lake to the outer rim near the old observation deck, creating a cloud of steam and ash that rose a few hundred meters and quickly dissipated.
