Heavy rain affects more than 16,000 people in northeastern China

More than 16,000 people in China’s Liaoning province were affected by heavy rains that began Saturday, local media reported.

Most parts of Liaoning province received moderate to heavy rains, while some areas suffered heavy downpours and hail, Xinhua news agency reported Monday, citing the provincial flood and drought control headquarters.

A total of 16,583 people have been affected so far, the agency said.

The province has resettled 4,513 people to safety. The area of affected crops amounted to 2,533.13 hectares of land, resulting in direct economic damage of about $26 million.
