Heavy rains cause flooding in eastern Indonesia

Flash floods caused by heavy rains in a village in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province have left at least two people dead and one missing, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported.

The agency also reported that at least 26 residents of Ineri village in Ngada district were displaced from their homes after the disaster, and at least five residences were reportedly washed away by the flooding.

“The phenomenon was caused by intense rains on Saturday morning at 0000 local time,” said acting agency spokesman Abdul Muhari.

Local authorities are currently searching for a missing person from the accident.
