Heavy rains caused floods in Ankara, Turkey

On June 9, 2021, heavy flooding occurred around the city of Ankara, Turkey. The capital’s Mamak district, Ankara province, was hit the hardest.

Videos posted on social media show floodwaters rushing through the streets, dragging cars and debris from buildings. Media outlets report dozens of damaged buildings and roads.

Turkey’s Meteoroloji Genel Müdürlüğü warned of further heavy rains in the south of the country, particularly in Adana, Osmaniye and Kahramanmaras provinces.
