A couple of weeks in Japan were mixed with heavy snowfalls followed by warm weather and rain.
The rain turned to snow in Hokkaido on Tuesday night, and on Wednesday, Furano reporter Lucy Morrell wrote that “the combination of yesterday’s warmth and rain plus snow meant that this morning we are all barricaded in our homes by the ice crust.”
In Niseko, the rain also turned into snow. On Tuesday evening, 46 cm of fresh snow remained, the temperature was -8. Yesterday it was 25 cm more, and today the storm must pass. It is predicted that it will rain in Hokkaido tomorrow, but the weather could return to snow after a dark night and continue to cover the country with snow on Sunday.
