The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) has upgraded the aviation color code to red after sustained ash emissions reached heights up to 6 km above sea level.
Satellite data show that ash emissions from Semisopochny volcano have continued since the beginning of April 15 (LT) and have continued without decreasing intensity, AVO reported today at 00:24 UTC.
The ash cloud extends more than 350 km southeast of the volcano up to 6 km above sea level.
