In the English city of Ripon County of North Yorkshire, there was a huge sinkhole with an area of 15×15 m2 and a depth of 4.5 meters.
Authorities evacuated residents of 12 houses located in the area of failure. It is reported that casualties among the residents there. Presumably this area has large deposits of gypsum, which may have washed away the underground water from the underground cavities.
