The National Civil Defense Service of Mexico declared a state of emergency in 33 municipalities in the state of Oaxaca, affected by the recent severe earthquake.
As noted in the message of the ministry, this measure will allow these areas to get access to the funds of a special fund for the liquidation of the consequences of natural disasters. The state authorities themselves asked about the declaration of the state of emergency regime.
An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 with an epicenter in the Pinotepa-Nacional area occurred in Oaxaca last Friday. According to the latest information from local authorities, damage was inflicted to hundreds of buildings, 1.3 million homes and outlets were left without light. At the same time, as the national seismological service of the country reports, since Friday more than 1.5 thousand aftershocks have been recorded.
About 4,800 marines and soldiers were sent to Oaxaca to help the population with the support of helicopters and aircraft.
