Increased seismic activity at Taal Volcano, Philippines

In the 24 hours before February 26, the Taal network of volcanoes recorded 113 episodes of volcanic tremors lasting from 1 to 34 minutes.

Warning level remains at 1 (abnormal) – sudden steam or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ash emissions and lethal accumulations or emissions of volcanic gas may occur, which could threaten territories on the island near Taal.

The soil deformation parameters record a slight deflation around the Main Crater since October 2020, but in general, after the eruption, very slow and steady inflation in the Taal region is recorded by continuous GPS data.
