Indonesia earthquake killed and injured

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 occurred off the coast of East Java, Indonesia – 8 people were killed, dozens were injured.

A violent earthquake on Indonesia’s main island, Java, killed eight people, including a woman whose motorcycle was hit by falling rocks and damaged more than 1,300 buildings. The earthquake did not cause a tsunami.

The epicenter was located 45 km south of the city of Sumberpukung, Malang district in East Java province, at a depth of 82 km.

About 1,189 homes and 150 public facilities were damaged, including schools, hospitals and government offices. Rescuers recovered four bodies from rubble in the village of Kali Uling in Lumajang. It is also confirmed that three people died in the earthquake in the Malang area.

Television reports have shown people rushing out of malls and buildings in panic in several cities in East Java province.
