Lightning killed three women standing under a tree in Maharashtra, India

According to police, three women were killed and two others were seriously injured after being struck by lightning in the Nagpur region of Maharashtra state.

The incident happened in the evening after some female workers took shelter under a tree in Shiva village to escape heavy rains as they were heading home, said a Kondhali police station official.

“Lightning from the sky hit the tree and the women,” he said, adding that the victims were taken to the hospital in Hingna by the villagers, where three of them died. According to him, the victims were identified as Archana Tatode (35 years old), Sharda Uikey (36 years old) and Sangeeta Mungbhate (35 years old).
