Lightning this weekend killed five people, including four members of the same family, in the Angolan province of Bieu, which has seen heavy rains in recent days, the local civil defense and fire service said.
Four deaths were reported in Quito, the provincial capital of Bieu, and another in the municipality of Cunhinga.
“Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms that hit Bie Province caused five deaths,” Enrique Ndawoka of the Bie Civil Defense and Fire Service told Angolan public radio.
In turn, the governor of Bieu Pereira Alfredo said that work has already started to install some lightning rods, especially in the most critical areas.
In Angola, the phenomenon of lightning is of concern, especially in the central part of the country, as it causes a large number of deaths.
