Lightning kills six and injures dozens in Yemen

Dozens of women were killed and injured when lightning struck a crowd of people attending a wedding in Dhamar governorate, south of the Yemeni capital Sanaa, turning the wedding celebration into a funeral.

Local sources reported that lightning struck a house in Al-Akmar village, Isolat Asbil, in the Maifaa Ans district, east of Dhamar city, during the wedding, killing and injuring dozens of women.

Three women died and 30 others were injured, from fractures and burns, as they gathered at home to attend the wedding ceremony, according to the Yemeni Habar Agency.

Another lightning struck the village of Maram in the same area, killing three women, according to sources.

Most Yemeni governorates are experiencing heavy rains accompanied by downpours and thunderstorms. Some provinces are reporting deaths and injuries due to thunderstorms and downpours.
