Lightning strike kills 2 and injures 13 in Meghalaya, India

Two people were killed on the spot and 13 others were seriously injured Saturday when lightning struck a cattle shed in Maungap village in Mawshinrut, Western Khasi Hills.

The dead, Leborius Nongsiang (17) and Leding Rongrin (37), were among 15 people who were building a cattle shed at the time of the incident.

Maujaw Langrin, sordar of Maunggap village, said: “The incident happened around 12 noon when they were sheltering from the downpour in the cattle shed. However, thunder suddenly struck and two died on the spot.”

The village dorbar reported the incident to PS Riangdo, and the bodies of the dead were handed over to the families, while the others who were injured were taken to Riangdo CDC.
