Lightning strikes kill four single family members in Tanzania

Four people from the same family were killed by lightning Thursday night on Lake Victoria’s Bumbile Island in northwestern Muleba District in Tanzania’s Kagera region.

“The victims were a married couple and their two children,” Muleba District Commissioner Toba Nguvilla told a news conference, adding that lightning struck them while they were sleeping.

The official said the deceased family was farming and fishing on the island.

Robert Musiibha, chairman of the Bullo village in the area, said the victims’ home, which had an iron sheet roof, was destroyed to the ground by the lightning strike.
