Lightning strikes kill seven people in Bangladesh

Seven people, including four teenagers, were killed and three others injured in separate lightning strikes in Sadar and Chirirbandar counties in Dinajpur on Monday.

The dead were identified as 13-year-old Sajjad son of Ainul Islam, 16-year-old Atiq son of Bablu Mia, 10-year-old Mim son of Saju Mandal, 16-year-old Apon from Kalipur district, 28-year-old Abdur Razzaq son of Saimul Islam, 26-year-old Noor Islam son of Moksed Ali and 25-year-old Abbas Ali son of Altaf Hossain.

Police said the children were playing outside in Upasahar around 3:30 p.m. when lightning struck them, killing three on the spot and injuring several others.

Another died after being taken to the hospital, said Mojaffar Hossain, chief of the Dinajpur Kotwali police station.

The two wounded were transferred to the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), police said.

Meanwhile, in Chiriribandar, three more people were killed by lightning while fishing in Sukhdebpur district, said Subrata Sarkar, senior officer of Chiriribandar police station.
