More than 225,000 people affected by floods in India

The overall flood situation in Assam has worsened as the rising Brahmaputra River and its tributaries flooded vast areas in 15 districts and affected 2,25,501 residents of the state, according to a daily bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Agency (ASDMA).

The current flood wave, triggered by prolonged heavy rains in the catchment areas, has affected Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigon, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts and has affected 512 villages in 34 districts.
