Rice fields flooded, roads damaged by floods in Cambodia

Recent floods caused by rains in Battambang province have damaged 4,870 hectares of rice fields, 23,290 meters of 17 roads and the homes of 161 families in five districts of Banteay Mancha province.

Mongkul district governor Borey Roth Dasinang warned locals to prepare food and medicine, store family documents safely in a watertight container, turn off electricity, watch out for children and beware of snakes during this week.

Dasinang said flash floods appear suddenly and quickly reach emergency levels.

“If the rain continues, we won’t be able to estimate how much everything will be flooded,” Dasinang said.

Malay County Governor Em Sokha told Khmer Times yesterday that 573 families in the Boeng Chhong Ruk Techo development in Tuol Prasat village of Tuol Pong commune were affected, and authorities have prepared several shelters in places such as markets, schools, hospitals and pagodas that can keep 1,000 families safe in case of a flooding emergency.
