Storm “Eleanor” ruined tens of thousands of trees in Switzerland

Storm “Eleanor” knocked down tens of thousands of trees in Switzerland. The Federal Environmental Protection Agency will conduct an assessment covering the whole country in the coming days in order to be able to estimate the total damage.

As a result of the primary assessment, local large areas of fallen trees are recorded, which is caused by a powerful wind. However, compared to the damage caused by the storm “Lothar” on December 26, 1999, the storm “Eleonora” cost “little blood.” “Lothar” destroyed 12.5 million cubic meters of forest, resulting in a total loss of 1,74 billion francs from the disaster.
