An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred on the border of Burundi and Rwanda 23.09.2016. The focus lies at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 19 km from the town of Cibitoke ( Burundi) and 69 kilometers from the capital of Burundi – Bujumbura. Tremors were felt in Burundi, Rwanda and the DRC.
At least two people were killed and five injured in the earthquake in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The epicenter of the earthquake was located on the border with the neighbouring DRC, Burundi and Rwanda.
According to preliminary data, two people were killed, both men, and five others were injured – three girls and two men — said the Minister of health of South Kivu province, where the earthquake occurred. As reported, as a result of aftershocks have been destroyed several houses.
